With a career spanning over 35 years, DJ Biff Piner is a seasoned fixture of the electronic dance music industry. His journey began at the microphone as the lead singer for the industrial rock band Rhododendron, before transitioning behind the decks. Biff’s early DJ sets blended the raw energy of industrial music with the driving rhythms of acid house. As the techno movement exploded, he became a staple on the national rave circuit, navigating evolving sounds and various monikers—including DJ Biff Pinter, Captain Zephyr, and DJ Biff—before cementing his signature identity.
Biff’s musical evolution has been deeply shaped by the cities he has called home, including Des Moines, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Rehoboth Beach. Each cultural landscape brought a new dimension to his eclectic taste and style, landing him gigs at iconic venues nationwide—from Crobar (Chicago) and First Avenue (Minneapolis) to Backstreet (Atlanta), Club Hippo (Baltimore), and The Bike Stop (Philadelphia), as well as major circuit and dance events like Southern Decadence, Motor Ball, Hotlanta, and Winter Music Conference.
Beyond the DJ booth, Biff has a deep history in music media. For more than 15 years starting in the late '90s, he served as an official Club Reporter for Billboard Magazine, holding prominent club residencies simultaneously across the East Coast and Midwest. He also authored the independent music column “Beat On This,” which featured in David Magazine and was later syndicated in Window Media LGBTQ+ publications nationwide. Today, "Beat On This" continues to thrive as a frequently updated online blog.
After years of relentless touring, Biff stepped away from the grueling club circuit to channel his entrepreneurial spirit into a new venture, opening two successful salon and spas outside of Philadelphia alongside his husband and partner of 25 years. However, the music never stopped. Decades into his career, Biff remains a vital pillar in the music community—producing original tracks, writing reviews, and offering guidance to the promoters and artists shaping the scene today.
In 2018, Biff made a triumphant return to the nightlife scene, launching the "Sunday Celebration" Tea Dances and Saturday night "Release" parties at Diego’s in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. When the 2020 covid lockdowns hit, he adapted by launching successful YouTube and Twitch channels, broadcasting live sets from his home studio before eventually transitioning those livestreams back to a packed house at Diego’s.
By the summer of 2021, Biff took over as the resident DJ at Aqua Bar & Grill, a legendary staple of the Rehoboth LGBT community, delivering some of the most energetic nights the venue had ever seen. Continuing his momentum, his recent residencies include a weekly Saturday afternoon party at the Purple Parrot and a return to AQUA for his signature Sunday Tea Dances. Whether spinning a modern club set or diving into an all-vinyl set live from his home studio, DJ Biff continuously invites listeners to join him on an unforgettable musical journey.
